Fire Chief Investigated for Deadly Arson That Killed 10 at Holiday Inn
In the middle of a November night in 1978, 10 people at the Holiday Inn in Greece, New York were killed in a horrific fire. Though it was declared an act of arson, the case eventually went cold. But now, 36 years later, the investigation has been re-opened, and there’s a twist: The sole suspect is the current fire chief in town. For this story, Laura tracked down and interviewed a former firefighter who responded at the scene, the fire expert who determined it was arson, a firefighter currently working under the suspect/chief and several victims who lost family members in the fire. She also issued public record requests to obtain video footage, audio recordings and written reports.
